Been in our new house since October last year, the whole house was gutted and re-wired before we bought it, but the telephone and bell wiring seem a bit dodgy.
I have opened up the bell box and the attached shows what cable I have.
There are two cables each with 3 twisted pairs (green/white, orange/white, blue white). I have not wired in any of the cables myself, I presume I need to make a connection to the bottom r/h screw (#2 as all the other are terminated). I striped the sheath of the green/white wires at the top, if they touch its make a circuit and the bell rings (even when the button is not pressed out side), so I presume I dont want to be terminating this cable.
Any ideas... as you can guess I aint an electrician... from my old GSCE physics I think that pressing the bell button outside completes the circuit but don't know where to begin.
Also where is the power coming from for this, not the mains - the telephone system??? As its happens everyroom has a telephone socket, tried wiring these in to master socket and they are still dead.
I need to do some classes on wiring.
